About Us
Founded in 1993, Union County Youth Ballet is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing arts education and performance opportunities to youth. Our annual production of The Nutcracker is a highly anticipated community event. Over the years, UCYB has also put on productions of The Wizard of Oz, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and many more.
We strive to help our students gain new skills in the performing arts that will translate to their lives and to help them connect with positive role models. Our primary focus is for our students to succeed in school and within their communities. We use dance and theatrics to build confidence, instill a good work ethic, and prepare our students for a successful life.
Our young artists are mentored by accomplished performers and instructors. This keeps the students engaged in the program, showing them that with hard work and perseverance that they, too, could find a career within the performing arts.

Monroe City Ballet
Monroe City Ballet is a pre-professional company formed in 2005 by Bonita Simpson to give additional class time and performing opportunities to gifted and dedicated dancers in the Union County area. Company members are selected based on their abilities and their commitment to dance.
The goal in forming this group has been to help promising young dancers reach their full potential by strengthening technique and enhancing stage presence.
Company members have participated in the Annual Artists Music Guild Awards Ceremony, NC Governor’s Inaugural Parade in Raleigh, NC, Miss Piedmont High School Pageant entertainment, UNCSA Adjudication, UNCSA Winter Festival, as well as numerous performances at local churches, assisted living facilities, and community functions.
In 2015, Monroe City Ballet 2 was formed to give younger dancers similar opportunities. This led to the 2016 formation of the Trainee company, which allows students from the age of thirteen the opportunity to train with company members.
